Three excellent places for pizza in Cape Town
Pizza in your strops, pizza in your heels, and pizza in someone else’s shoes.
I’m going to be an outright pizza snob and say that if you don’t prefer wood-fired pizza over anything else, you might not have explored enough of what Cape Town has to offer. With two long weekends coming up at the end of the month, here’s what you do:
Pizza perfect indeed. Sea Point’s Burger Perfect/Pizza Perfect offers affordable, take-out (with good, quick service) that you can enjoy with good company and the view of your choice. At franchises I tend to go for the pizza with the most topping, I love the Pizza perfect carnivoris pizza. On average their deluxe pizzas are around R80, but you can get a meal for under 50bucks too. This is a Halaal branch. Large pizza prices: Margarita: R51, Regina: R66, most expensive: R99
If you’re having a night out on the town and want to start it off with a good pizza, pop by Col’Cacchio for a thin base gourmet pizza, all the rage. When you first mentioned going out for pizza with your mates, they all thought Col’Cacchio anyway. They have healthy options and a number of adventurous toppings. When I’m all dressed up and doing it fancy, I like their La Zizou, but need to share it sometimes as gourmet pizzas come with gourmet prices. If you’re very specific, you can create your own, if you can’t decide, go Half-n half. Their winter 2015 menu even has banting-friendly pizzas and the ‘Foro’ range which has a hole in the middle filled with salad. They are child friendly and in general, it feels like you’re spending your evening in a well-organised Italian family-restaurant. Margarita: R60, Regina: R79, most expensive: R160
Try something new: Trance music + Pizza = Call-a-pizza
Here’s the curve-ball; they're not wood-fired, but I forgive them because they are also not Italian or trendy or very big. They are so unique that they do not compare to my other two options. I ordered a large pizza with the idea that I would have a couple of slices to take home with me. I struggled to finish three slices because the topping was so generous! The owner of the store is welcoming and so interesting to chat to. There are three tables to sit at, with the menu in a flip-file for each customer. Glow-in-the-dark stars on the roof, puzzles on the walls which were completed by customers and UV lights are part of the colorful decoration you’ll find. Large pizza prices: Margarita: R82, Regina: R106, most expensive: R153
To give you an idea of the range:
2 x 10cm mini pizza’s:R18
Margarita with 6 toppings (±3kg): R 325
